Why this learning journey?

Learning journeys are multi-step course templates based on active learning for different target learning outcomes. This journey will help you with:

Promote self-regulation and autonomy

By taking ownership of their own learning, students are empowered to develop a sense of autonomy and responsibility, as well as the skills of reflective practice and self-monitoring, which are essential competencies for future professional life.

Develop critical and higher-order thinking

When students compare their work to multiple sources, such as peer work, exemplars, and teacher feedback, they’re encouraged to think critically about their choices, assumptions, and reasoning. The act of comparison requires them to evaluate not only their own performance but also the strengths and weaknesses of other perspectives, fostering deeper learning and understanding.

Relieve of assessment loads

The instructors take on the role of facilitators and moderators of assessment in collaboration with students, which helps to form meaningful interactions and a supportive learning community. By letting the learners take charge of their own learning, instructors can be relieved of heavy assessment loads.

STEP 1

Step 1: Students work on deliverables

Students are assigned to work on the first draft of a product (essay, research paper, video, podcast, etc.)

step 2

Step 2: Peer review and feedback comparison

Students upload their first draft to Peer Review tool, where they need to give feedback on 3 of their peer’s submissions. Most importantly, they need to compare their own work with that of their peers, by responding to a number of questions. They can also receive personalized guidance on feedback delivery with the Feedback Coach feature. Read more about how to organize this step in this article.

Step 3: Reflect on peers' feedback

Once the students complete reviewing 3 submissions, they work on a final self review of their work based on 2 sets of peers’s feedback, reflecting on what they have learned from the given reviews and what additional changes they would make to their essays. This is done at the self assessment stage within Peer Review tool.
