The role of critical thinking is becoming more and more prominent in a world where fake news, scams and hoaxes are part of everyday life. It is therefore crucial that students are taught how to become critical thinkers.

One of the ways to nurture critical thinking is to develop comprehension of study materials, which involves the ability to properly understand and interpret the presented information. So how can teachers make sure students actively consume the study materials, while enhancing their comprehension and critical reading?
Select your LMS:
Upload the study materials and specify the topics
Instructors can create peer feedback assignments, set instructions and deadlines, as well as specify the criteria.
Develop understanding of the materials
Students study the materials then annotate the passages where the outlined topics are discussed, and also respond to others’ annotations.
Write a summary of annotations
Teachers require students to write a summary based on their annotations to demonstrate understanding of the content.
Decide which type of content to be used (audio, video, image, or text-based).
Specify the topics or subjects to highlight, the number of annotations to be made, and whether students should write a summary.
Have an overview of the annotations per topic using the color coded highlights to monitor students’ understanding of the content.
Let students see and comment on their peers’ annotations to help gain better understanding of the topic and spark in-depth discussion.
Grade students based on different requirements (number of annotations, summary completion, and reflection writing), then synchronize the results with your native LMS
Access students’ progress and participation within the tool, thus downloading the analytics files in excel or csv form for more thorough analysis and long-term strategy.
Prevent students from downloading or modifying the materials in case of copyright protection.
