Skills are strengths or proficiencies that people gain through training and experience. In the workplace, professionals apply skills to achieve results. Competencies are sets of demonstrable proficiencies and abilities that individuals use to achieve a goal or complete a task. They typically combine skills, abilities, and knowledge and can include the specific behaviours a person carries out to succeed in their role.

What are some examples for skills and competencies?
An example of a soft skill is adaptability, and an example of a hard skill is graphic design. An example of a behavioural competency is conflict management and a functional competency is strategic planning.
