Activity steps

  1. Read instructions: In this step, students are expected to read the instructions of the activity. 
  2. Discussion posts: Students read and reply to the discussion prompt 
  3. Peer discussion: Students reply to two of their peers discussion posts 
  4. Reflection: Students reflect on how the discussion influenced their perspective on the topic 
  5. Grading: Grades are given for creating posts and replying to peers comments.

Activity goals

This activity helps facilitate a flipped classroom approach to your teaching. When student engage with material prior to class there are several benefits:
  1. Read instructions: In this step, students are expected to read the instructions of the activity. 
  2. Discussion posts: Students read and reply to the discussion prompt 
  3. Peer discussion: Students reply to two of their peers discussion posts 
  4. Reflection: Students reflect on how the discussion influenced their perspective on the topic

In this activity

  • The topic of the course you are teaching should be added to the discussion prompt so students know what topic they should discuss 
  • Peer discussion is set to “Assigned discussion”, meaning students are allocated to peers. Adjust this to “Free form discussion” if you want students to have the freedom to choose who they reply to.
