Exploring Hofstede's dimensions of culture through discussion

Start using this template

Activity steps

  1. Read instructions: Go through the instructions to understand the activity requirements. Students were required to explore Hofstede’s dimensions of culture before interacting with the discussion.
  2. Create discussion: Students answer the prompts that are given in relation to the Hofstede dimensions of culture.
  3. Peer discussion: Students interact with other student’s posts and create  discussion about their findings
  4. Reflect: Students read and reflect on their findings and their peer discussions.
  5. Grading: Instructors grade the contributions of students participation in the discussion activity.

Activity goals

This activity helps facilitate a flipped classroom approach to your teaching. When student engage with material prior to class there are several benefits:

In this activity

  • Guide students through instructions to compose short, but reasoned answers to the questions on the discussion board.
  • There is a required amount of posts per student to ensure that they are participating in the discussion. 
  • Free-form discussion is turned on as a setting for student participation to give more freedom to students when choosing which discussion posts to interact with
  • Recommended word limit for discussions and reflection (200-300) this can be changed for your course needs.
  • Assign grading criteria to match your course requirements.
