Stimulate lifelong learning with peer feedback
In this activity
- This activity uses peer review as a structured dry run before the final oral presentation assessment, giving students the opportunity to give and receive constructive feedback in a low-stakes environment before their grade counts.
- The social nature of peer feedback positively influences the learning process and motivation of students in a potentially challenging task, making oral presentation practice a more collaborative and supportive experience.
- Students familiarise themselves with the assessment criteria through the process of reviewing their peers, gaining a deeper understanding of expectations and what effective presentation delivery looks like.
- The process of comparing their own presentation with that of their peers creates the opportunity to identify gaps between their current performance, expected performance, and their desired performance.
- This activity follows students' practice with Microsoft Speaker Coach, an AI tool used to refine oral presentation delivery, combining AI feedback, peer feedback, and tutor feedback as complementary sources of input for development.
- A mixed-methods research study has been conducted over two years comparing AI feedback, peer feedback through FeedbackFruits, and tutor feedback following face-to-face oral presentation practice. This research was carried out by Boey Chee Kin, Chan Ruo Hui, Teo Yuan Ching, Joshua Chan, Jai Rangasamy, and Nurzahiah Jumat at Temasek Polytechnic.
