Activity steps
- Read instructions: Students read the activity instructions and familiarise themselves with the task and submission requirements.
- Submission: Students use three different generative AI tools to summarise an assigned assigned reading or scholarly source, compare the outputs for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and usefulness, verify claims against the original, and submit their own explainer addressing a key concept, claim, or question from the article.
- Peer review: Students review their peers' explainers using structured criteria covering clarity, accuracy, accessibility, and audience alignment, identifying one strength and one specific suggestion for improvement.
- Received reviews: Students read the peer feedback they have received on their explainer.
- Grading: Students receive a grade based on their submitted explainer and the peer feedback they provided.

In this activity
- This interdisciplinary activity invites students to look beyond the first AI-generated answer, using three different generative AI tools to summarise the same scholarly source and critically compare the outputs for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and usefulness.
- Students verify important claims against the original source, identifying errors, missing information, and oversimplifications — developing the habit of using AI as a starting point rather than a final answer.
- Students create their own explainer — as a short video, narrated slides, or written response — communicating a key concept, claim, or question from the source in their own words, addressing what the idea is, why it matters, and what questions or implications it raises.
- Peer review is structured around the CAAA criteria: Clarity, Accuracy, Accessibility, and Audience Alignment, with each reviewer identifying one strength and one specific suggestion for improvement.
- The activity is designed to be adaptable across disciplines — instructors can adjust the source, AI tools, audience, format, and length to suit different course contexts and levels.
