Team-based learning is a pedagogical practice that allows students to go beyond rote memorization and focuses on knowledge application in group problem-solving. However, there can be several challenges when facilitating TBL, namely maintaining continuous engagement during the preparation stage; ensuring group contribution in the tRAT and application exercises, while saving time in TBL set-up, and more.

FeedbackFruits Team Based Learning tool is the solution to address these issues. The tool helps instructors create and scale each step of TBL across any class size, modality and domain.

Configure peer evaluation step

Create a peer evaluation at then end of the TBL activity to encourage critical reflection and evaluation on students’ group contribution.

Team based learning pre-work step

Before starting with the iRAT and tRAT steps, instructors can add a Pre-Work step within the Team Based Learning tool, where they assign students interactive documents or multimedia material to prepare for the activity.

Team Based Learning group-based answering

The tool enables students to complete the second step of the multiple choice quiz (tRAT step) in teams which the teachers can import directly from the LMS. The first student to enter the tRAT step will be automatically assigned as the team leader of the group and will be able to answer on behalf of the group. The answers and progress will be automatically updated for the rest of the team members.

Team Based Learning scratch-off questions

Scratch-off questions are enabled in the tRAT step of the tool. Unlike regular multiple choice questions, scratch-off questions provide students with multiple attempts to answer the question and only reveal whether the answer is correct after submitting. If the selected answer was incorrect, this is revealed to the student, but the other answers remain veiled.

Team Based Learning question analytics

The tool offers teachers analytics on how questions are answered by students in both the iRAT and tRAT step including detailed information such as number of correct answers, skip rate and the attempts and time per question. This way, you can identify which questions were difficult to answer for students and help them dive into those further with a clarification session during the lecture.

Team Based Learning results summary

The tool offers students a summary of their performance after they have completed both the iRAT and tRAT steps. Through this summary, they are able to make a comparison of how they performed individually versus in the team.

Team based learning peer evaluation step

After the application phase, instructors can add a peer evaluation step within the Team Based Learning tool, where students give feedback to each other on their group contribution.

"The TBL tool can help instructors untap the full potential of the TBL methodology. It can also be used outside the TBL cycle. At the end of the day, it’s a tool that allows students to complete multiple-choice quizzes in groups and to receive interactive feedback on their choices. This is a great way of fostering discussion and peer-to-peer learning."

Fernando Pastor Merchante
Assistant Professor

"My students liked using FeedbackFruits: You can make your courses much more sparkling and vibrant, and now it seems that students are taking the feedback more seriously!"

Dr. Tiffany Gunning
