Like instructional designer Mustafa Elsawy, many educators share in some of their forever challenges: low student engagement and retention, overburdened workload, lack of technology and training, to name but a few. Offering excellent education today requires putting pedagogy and technology together, and collaborative partnership to make this possible.
In 2022 D2L Fusion session, Mustafa talked about 10 key criteria which determined Georgia State University's decision to enter a partnership with FeedbackFruits, using tools to facilitate a plethora of learning activities seamlessly in Brightspace, saving instructors time and work, and benefitting from expert support at a moment's notice.
Like many institutions, Central State University decided to expand their hybrid course offerings, and put more attention toward the design of online aspects of course design. An unfortunate effect of this transition was decreased social interaction. Dr. Anderson experienced this firsthand, where his students didn't complete the reading assignments satisfactorily.
Using Interactive Document and Interactive Video tools of FeedbackFruits, Dr. Anderson sought to use social annotation to overcome issues with student engagement, and create opportunities for meaningful interaction. She uploaded articles and videos into these two tools to prompt students to actively participate with the material, as well as pose their own questions where needed.
At the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment of Deakin University, Dr. Gunning and her team have been implementing a 2-year long, multi-faceted project to prepare students for the world of work and encourage lifelong learning.
For teachers, it is difficult to monitor many groups in online settings. For students, they face the issue of fairness in group projects. This is where FeedbackFruits stepped in. Using the Group Member Evaluation tool, elements of self, peer, and group assessment were issued to ensure accountability, and stimulate self-regulatory skills. In another course, the Deakin team moved from a paper-based model to the online model for the TBL activity, using the Team Based Learning tool.
