What is social
learning?
From a social learning perspective, knowledge is constructed while individuals are engaging in activities, receiving feedback, and participating in other forms of human interaction in public, social contexts. Another key concept for this pedagogy is that of “modelling” where learners are offered patterns to illustrate desired behaviour. Elements of social learning can be included in instructional design to enhance learning outcomes, inclusion and social skills.
Why social learning?
Learning management systems nowadays include many tools for interaction and communication, but these tools, per se, do not turn learning into social. Chances are that even in these environments, students continue to learn (and possibly struggle) individually. Social learning brings deeper understanding and outcomes while better supporting students as part of a community of practice.
Increased student engagement
Incorporating social learning elements (ie. modelling) increases learning engagement by promoting collaboration, interaction, and community building.

How does FeedbackFruits support social learning?
Effective social learning requires careful consideration of various learning design factors to maximize its impact.
Group size plays a crucial role, as large groups can generate overwhelming interactions. If reducing size isn't feasible, limiting the frequency or length of discussions can improve engagement. FeedbackFruits' Discussion on Work helps facilitate meaningful online conversations.
Inclusion is essential, as differences in gender, culture, and academic background affect social learning. Thoughtful group formation, supported by Group Formation fosters dynamic and diverse teams.
Modelling enhances understanding by providing meaningful examples rather than just templates. FeedbackFruits' Comprehension learning activity helps students grasp key concepts by highlighting predefined topics.
Diverse resources improve accessibility and engagement. FeedbackFruits provides Interactive Study Materials to cater to different learning preferences.
